NASCAR star Larson wins in Attica

ATTICA — Kyle Larson came to Attica Friday, and the Monster Energy driver left with a win.

Larson dominated the second half of the 37th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek opener, claiming his ninth Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Circuit of Champions.

It was the second time Larson has one at Attica, the last time coming in 2016, which also was during a Speedweek event.

In the 40-lap feature, the early leader s was Aaron Reutzel. But in the 16th lap, two cars Ruetzel was about to lap two cars, but the two got tangled and and ended upside down.

That ended Reutzel’s night.

“A little bit lucky tonight, but I felt like my car was really, really good here,” said Larson in a release from Attica Raceway Park. “It’s tough when you are in second, the track’s so dirty. Aaron was a little bit better than me but when I was the leader I felt like I was quite a bit better than I had been behind him.”

Six-time All-Star champion Dale Blaney and Attica point leader Buddy Kofoid were in a tight competition to finish second, with Blaney crossing first for the runner-up spot.

Kofoid, a teenager, has only finished out of the top three in Attica once, and that was last weekend when he was collected in a crash.

He was leading at the time.

“We’ve been really good at Attica and a lot of other places we’ve been getting a lot better,” Kofoid said. “I think we were just as fast as Kyle in the beginning and I was able to move around to judge what I was doing off what he was doing. We were pretty consistent for (a while) and then we just fell off.”

DJ Foos took fourth, while Tim Shaffer was fifth. Twenty-six cars competed.
