McMahan breaks through at Attica
ATTICA — A week after Paul McMahan broke a 13-year drought with a win in New York, the Nashville native took advantage of the misfortunes of Kyle Larson and Aaron Reutzel to notch his first win at Attica Raceway Park. He won the 40-lap A Main race.
Larson, a NASCAR star, looked primed to win the race before smacking a wall with 22 laps left. From there, McMahan and Reutzel fought for the top spot until Reutzel hit the front stretch wall while leading during the 25th lap.
McMahan then had to hold off Kasey Kahne, but Kahne also was knocked out when he hit the front wall and nearly flipped with five laps to go. Kahne was able to stay in the race, but McMahan held on, beating Byron Reed by three seconds.
Reed has won eight times in Attica.
“I’ve run second here several times. It’s a very special place here in Attica,” McMahan said.
