NEW RIEGEL — Two runs in the fifth gave New Riegel the insurance it needed to secure a 5-3 win over Sandusky Bay Conference River Division rival Fremont St. Joe.
The Blue Jackets opened the game with three runs in the bottom half of the first inning for a 3-0 lead. A two-run fifth extended the lead to 5-0. The Crimson Streaks gave it a go in the top of the seventh, but could only muster three runs as the rally fell short.
Jenna Gabel led the Blue Jackets with a pair of doubles and two RBIs while Brianna Gillig doubled, drove in two runs and scored a run. Winning pitcher Jacquelyn Lininger drove in a run and scored. Emily Peters finished with a hit and two runs while Kristin Coleman singled and scored.
In the circle, Lininger fanned six while allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks.
Allison Theis and Kayleigh Lininger each added a base hit.
