H-L’s Crawford goes unbeaten at D-III Duals

SANDUSKY — Caden Crawford wrapped up an unbeaten mark at the Sandusky St. Mary Division III Duals with four pins and a decision Saturday for Hopewell-Loudon.

Crawford earned all of his wins at 126 pounds Saturday for the Chieftains, beating Norwalk St. Paul’s Ryan Gross 10-6 and pinning Rootstown’s Simon Youngblood (:57), Huron’s Isaiah Gonzales (1:34), Sandy Valley’s Justin King (1:16) and Northwestern’s Bobby Flores (2:55).

Despite Crawford’s efforts, the Chieftains went 0-5 Saturday, falling 34-21 to St. Paul, 65-18 to Rootstown, 34-24 to Huron, 52-24 to Sandy Valley and 48-16 to Northwestern.

Crawford finished 9-0 at the two-day event.

Kole Freeman also went 5-0 Saturday at 106 pounds to end 8-1 overall for the Chieftains.

Saturday, Freeman pinned St. Paul’s Dawson Howerton (2:15), Rootstown’s Michael Prikryl (1:59) and Sandy Valley’s Seth Armstrong (1:01), scored an 11-1 major decision against Northwestern’s Dylan Martin and earned a forfeit against Huron.

Blake Hoover added a 4-1 day at 113 pounds to end 7-2 for H-L.

Hoover earned forfeits against St. Paul and Huron, and pinned Sandy Valley’s Tommy Russell (3:16) and Northwestern’s Malibu Hess (:22). He was pinned against Rootstown.

LIMA — Tanner May ended second at 182 pounds to lead Carey to 13th Saturday to highlight area efforts at Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational.

Ottawa-Glandorf’s Danie Beemer beat May 6-1 in the 182-pound title match.

Miami East beat Troy Christian 196-188 1/2 for the title in the 44-team field. Carey ended 13th with 74 points, Laktoa came in 22nd (48 1/2) and Calvert claimed 27th (37).

Calvert 170-pounder Connor Kwiat captured third by blanking Ottawa-Glandorf’s Danny Rosales 4-0.

Carey’s Reece Mullholand took fifth at 113 pounds by beating Miami East’s Garret Kowalak.

Lakota 285-pounder Dakota Klotz scored a 6-3 tiebreaker win against Carey’s Ethan Schalk for fifth.

Lakota also got sevenths from Darry Endicott and Trevor Franks. Endicott beat Lima Central Catholic 138-pounder Jordan Hinegardner 4-1, and Franks beat Miami East 152-pounder Travis Ferguson 3-1.

Carey’s Trent Pheonix finished eighth at 195 pounds after getting pinned by Columbus Grove’s Dakota Sargeant (4:41).
