Calvert’s boys second, girls third at Thunderbird Invite

LIMA — Christian Staib won two races, Sam Krout claimed another and they both helped Calvert’s boys win the 200 freestyle relay Saturday guiding the Senecas to second at the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational.

Meanwhile, Taylor Harris won two individual races and helped Calvert capture two relays on the way to the Senecas finishing third in the girls meet.

Portsmouth Notre Dame upended Calvert 385-249 for the boys championship.

Staib sparked Calvert’s boys by winning the 100 free (57.01) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.86), while Krout claimed the 200 free (2:20.42).

Sam Seibert and David Stosio rounded out the champion 200 free relay (1:50.39) for the Senecas.

Stosio added a second in the 200 IM (2:47.69) and a third in the 100 free (1:01.89).

Other thirds went to Seibert in the 50 free (29.72) and 100 breast (1:30.91), and Tristan Fanning in the 100 backstroke (1:27.59).

Stosio added a fourth in the 100 free (1:03.06).

Calvert’s girls took third in their meet with 214 points. Fremont St. Joe beat Portsmouth Notre Dame 387-304 for that title.

Harris led the Senecas by winning the 100 butterfly (1:02.88) and 100 breast (1:12.04) and swimming legs on the champion 200 medley relay (2:18.12) and 400 free relay (4:20.96).

Erin Wagner, Meghan Miller and Alana Kennedy joined her in both relays.

Miller also won the 200 IM (2:59.92).

The Senecas got thirds from Kennedy in the 200 free (2:32.4) and 100 free (1:05.82).

Wagner swam fourth in the 200 free (2:40.4)

Ramsdell captures

two races for TC

SHELBY — Toby Ramsdell won two races and anchored the runner-up 200 freestyle relay Saturday to lead Columbian to third at the Shelby Invitational.

Ramsdell claimed the 100 butterfly (1:06.53) and 100 backstroke (1:11.81) for the Tornadoes, who scored 59 points.

Willard beat Colonel Crawford 71-65 for the title in the nine-team meet.

Trevor McCarthy, Colin Burkett and Clay Moore joined Ramsdell on the 200 free relay (1:58.06).

Moore added seconds in the 50 free (27.73) and 100 free (1:03.79).

Thirds went to Burkett in the 100 free (1:13.64), the 200 medley relay team (2:18.19) and 400 free relay team (4:50.59). Ramsdell, Burkett, McCarthy and Corbin Hite swam in the 200 medley relay. Logan Robinson, Hite, Josh Fanning and Moore swam in the 400 free relay.

Columbian’s girls also took third, scoring 52 points in their eight-team meet. Colonel Crawford beat Shelby 128-69 for the championship.

Anna Fletcher led TC by taking second in the 50 free (29.78) and third in the 100 free (1:07.13), and helping the Tornadoes end second in the 200 medley relay (2:24.38) and third in the 200 free relay (2:12.99).

Dannah Smith, Izzy Lewis and Sierra Steinmetz rounded out the 200 medley relay. Lewis, Sydney Fortney and Abby Bickford joined her in the 200 free relay.

Smith added a third in the 400 free (5:55.05), as did the 400 free relay team of Fortney, Maya Clouse-Henry, Bickford and Smith (5:29.86).

Lewis chipped in a fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:29.24).
