Tornadoes sweep Little Giants

FREMONT — Columbian got its third win in as many matches as the Tornadoes handled Fremont Ross in three games, 25-20, 25-19, 25-14.

Addie Conti led the way for TC (3-0) with eight kills and 12 assists, while Emily Davis tacked on eight kills and five digs, Nikki Cole added 13 assists and four digs and Abby Dryfuse recorded four blocks and smacked a pair of kills.

Bellevue opens season with a win

CASTALIA — Margaretta didn’t put much of a scare into Bellevue Monday as the Lady Red took care of the Polar Bears 25-13, 25-15, 25-11.

Molly Bullion served five aces and dished 13 assists for Bellevue (1-0), while Taylor Baxter smacked 10 kills and had two blocks, Payton Vogel added nine kills, three aces and five digs, McKenna Strayer had five kills and Sydni Rodriguez served up a pair of aces and made four digs. Morgan Hicks made five digs and Madison Hrynciw ended with four assists.

Rams beat Crimson Streaks

FREMONT — With easy wins coming from the first singles and first doubles slots, Upper Sandusky came out on top of a 3-2 win against Fremont St. Joseph Monday.

With the win, the Rams improved to 2-2 while the Crimson Streaks fell to 1-3.

Jodie Smalley got an easy win at first singles. She beat Abby Chlosta 6-1 in both sets. The first doubles team of Abby Davidson and Emma Schoenberger — in her first varsity match — beat the Streak duo of Erin Borer and Hannah Haubert 6-0, 6-1.

The second and third singles spots were won by St. Joe. Olivia Eshleman defeated Mara Smalley 6-3 in both sets. Gloria Rhinehart took the win from Dani Conigy after a tiebreaker 6-0. 7-6 (7-3).

The Rams earned the win with a forfeit at the second doubles spot by St. Joe.

Ross sweeps TC

FREMONT — Fremont Ross had little trouble with Columbian Monday as the Little Giants lost just six sets in a 5-0 sweep.

In singles play, Ross’ No. 1 Gillian Gallagher bear Brooke Smith 6-0, 6-0, while No. 2 Olivia Henry topped Sophie Crist 6-2, 6-4 and No. 3 Lily Abdoo beat Katie Smith in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

It wasn’t much different in doubles play as Fremont’s No. 1 duo of Berlin Swaisgodd and Sophia Biggins upended Marina Pennycuff and Casey Knutson 6-3, 6-1 and Natalie Brown and Jurni Kidd defeated Alexis Smith and Erin Musil 6-0, 6-0.

Bellevue boys, girls win opening meet

BELLEVUE — The Bellevue girls and boys cross country teams won their opening meet Monday of the season as the boys beat Margaretta 18-51, while the girls topped Margaretta 17-46. Danbury had 64 points.

For the girls, Bellevue’s Taylor Waldecker (14:03) was first, followed by Lindsey Spurlock (14:14), Madelyn Verhoff (14:18) and Madison Raifsnider (15:18). Jamie Vogel was seventh (16:00) for the Lady Red. Margaretta’s top runner was Destiny Pullano (15:35) in fifth, and Danbury’s leader was Sydnee Parram (16:19) in ninth.

For the boys, Bellevue’s Zach Cleveland (12:06) led the way in first, while Ian Seymour (12:09) was right behind him. Dwight Fuehring (13:19) was sixth, Gabe Alda (13:21) seventh and Paul Coffelt (13:49) eighth.

Spencer Flick (13:17) was fifth for the Polar Bears, while Kory Berhart (12:24) was third for the Lakers.

Miller shoots 3 over in win

BUCYRUS — Marcus Miller led Carey to a 171-195 win against Wynford Monday at the Golf Club of Bucyrus.

Miller shot a 3 over 39 to keep the Blue Devils undefeated at 5-0, 3-0 in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference. Trey Bame followed with a 4 over performance, while Ethan Tanner added a 45 and Dylan Grothaus carded a 47. The Carey non-scorers were Kole Phillips (49) and McKain Miller (52).

Logen Sand led the Royals with a 46, followed by Josh Crall (48) and Kyle Koons (49). Cayleb Keaton and Mitchell Zaebst each shot a 52 and Steel Rose added a 57.

Chieftains win BVC tri-match

FOSTORIA — Hopewell-Loudon topped the Blanchard Valley Conference tri-match Monday against Arlington and Arcadia at the Lakeland Golf Course.

The Chieftains held on to a 22-stroke lead to beat Arlington 173-195. Arcadia took third with a 204.

Marcus White shot the low score of 42 to help lead H-L to victory. Cody Balliet followed with a 43, while Conner White and Garrett White each carded a 44. Adam Creeger shot a 47 and Jena Huffman added a 50.

Brayden Bushong led Arlington with a 43, followed by Will Bushong (47) and Ewan Martin (49). Garner Anderson and Austin Rausch each shot a 56. Emma Smith carded a 57.

Arcadia was led by Wyatt Lucas’ 45, followed by Casey Cramer with a 48. Drake Spridgeon shot a 55, while Will Recker capped off the Redskins’ scoring with a 56. Arcadia’s non-scorers were Kaleb Enders (57) and Colleen Grossman (63).

Brown-led Senecas beat Blue Jackets

Maddy Brown shot a 45 to lead Calvert to a 189-193 win over New Riegel Monday at Mohawk Country Club.

Jackson Cook followed Brown with a 46, while Dominic Mangiola shot a 47. Brayden Thomas, Jacob Kin, and Will Klepper each carded a 51.

New Riegel’s Jacob Theis shot the low score of 42, but it wasn’t enough for the win. Allan Acree carded a 47, followed by Aaron Hohman (50) and Nate Mack (54). The Blue Jacket non-scorers were Chris Acree (56) and Eric Theis (58).

Rams hold 21-stroke lead

UPPER SANDUSKY — Brett Montgomery led his team to a 171-192 victory over Buckeye Central at Lincoln Hills.

Montgomery shot the low score of 35 to lead the Rams.

The Bucks were led by Nic Ratliff’s 44, followed by a pair of 47s from Josh Dentinger and Adam Krebs. Dalton Sheaffer carded a 54.

Three Truckers at 3 over in win

NORWALK — Norwalk put on a dominating performance at Eagle Creek against Columbian for a 157-187 win.

Norwalk had three players card a 3-over 39 — Braden Nunez, Cameron Nickoli and Jerrod Kessler — in the win. Grant Fischer capped off the Truckers scoring with a 40. The non-scorers were Owen Rhodes (44) and Johan Mersereau (50).

The Tornadoes were led by Andrew Branson’s 40, followed by Braden Brown with a 47. Greg Gase and Brenton Brown each carded a 50. Columbian’s non-scorers included Griffin Bunting (54) and Garrett Bowers (61).

Hilliker’s par propels Fliers to win

CLYDE — Clyde found itself on top of a 166-170 win over Bellevue at Sleepy Hollow Monday.

The Fliers were able to get the win with the help of Ian Hilliker’s even par 35. David Hohenstein followed with a 41, while Logan Nicely and Jared Combs capped off the Clyde scoring with twin 45s. Ben Hohenstein added a 47 and Grant Reese shot a 49.

Jacob Tiell led the Redmen with a 40, followed by Nate Fox’s 42. Bellevue’s scoring was capped by a pair of 44s by Jacob Volkman and Connor Rospert. Garrett Vickery carded a 46, followed by Zach Eskins (51).
