Coach: Joel Ardner, first season
Returning letterwinners: Juniors Maddy Brown; Dominic Mangiola; Will Klepper.
Others: Juniors Jacob Kin; Brayden Thomas. Freshman Jackson Cook.
Outlook: Ardner is Calvert’s third coach in as many seasons, and he has a small squad to work with.
But the Senecas do return talent. Mangiola is back and is the team’s captain, while Brown — a two-time district qualifier — also returns.
Ardner said his players have a handle on what they’re doing.
“What I’m trying to do is not focus on technical stuff,” Ardner said. “We’re not building any swings, we more so are focusing on the mental aspect of the game.”
That means a good deal of short game work.
“A lot of our practice game is chipping, putting and course management,” Ardner said.
Ardner said he thinks Brown has a chance at state, and the boys team has a chance to win the Sandusky Bay Conference River and make the district tournament.
Mangiola and Brown have been solid for the Senecas, while Ardner said he’s been impressed with Thomas, who came over from St. Wendelin.
“Brayden has been a really good addition,” Ardner said. “He’s playing in the two spot. He’s played varsity before, he has some experience.”
