Columbian’s Zimmerman zips to district title

Madison Zimmerman won a race and Derra Cheatham took third in another Friday to highlight Columbian’s efforts at the Division I district meet at Frost-Kalnow Stadium.

The freshmen helped the Tornadoes finish 12th with 26 points.

Zimmerman crossed the line first in the 400 in 59.55 seconds.

Cheatham ran third in the 800 (2:20.91).

The top four in each event qualified for the regional meet in Amherst.

Erika Schultz added a seventh in the pole vault (9-0) for TC.

Columbian got a fifth in the 4×400 (4:09.94) and a sixth in the 4×200 (1:49.02).

Cheatham, Amanda Schwartz, Zimmerman and Annie Demith ran the 4×400, and Zimmerman, Sydney Schank, Tierra LeGrant and Demith ran the 4×200.

Columbian’s boys had a pair of regional qualifiers en route to ninth (30).

Donovan Walker, Josh Gibson, Justin Jarrett and Cliff Miller claimed third in the 4×100 (44.53).

Codey Chance also advanced by finishing fourth in the discus (141-9).

Kordell Hunt took fifth in the 400 (51.7), Chris Gates came in seventh in the 3,200 (10:10.73) and Ross Pauly ended eighth in the 300 hurdles (42.46).

The 4×200 (1:32.32) and 4×400 (3:29.46) also came in fifth for TC. Walker, Hunt, Jarrett and Miller ran both relays.

Luikart leaps to regional

DEFIANCE – Upper Sandusky’s Hunter Luikart gained the area’s lone regional berth during Friday’s portion of the Division II district track meet at Defiance High School.

Luikart cleared 6 feet to end third in the boys high jump.

The top four in each event qualified for the regional in Dayton.

Luikart’s effort helped the Rams finish 10th overall with 27 points. Fostoria tied for 14th (16).

Dominic Solis finished fifth in the 1,600 (4:28.87) and seventh in the 800 (2:02.94) for Upper Sandusky.

Chase Barnett added a seventh in the 300 hurdles (44.44), and Collin Gardner did the same in the discus (125-5).

Rams Anthony Reep (15.88) and Alec McMillan (16.07) ended seventh and eighth in the 110 hurdles.

Fostoria got a fifth from Rayshon Martin in the 400 (50.98) and a sixth from C.J. Matheney in the 1,600 (4:39.04).

The Redmen also ended eighth in the 4×400 (3:45.32).

No area girls earned a regional berth Friday.

Anna Massara took fifth in the pole vault (9-0) for Upper Sandusky, which ended 13th as a team with 12 1/2 points.

Fostoria finished 16th (7).

Fostoria ran sixth in the 4×100 (53.2) and Upper Sandusky took eighth (53.73).

Fostoria also took sixth in the 4×200 (1:53.68).

Olivia Valenti added an eighth in the long jump (15-3 1/4) for FHS.
