Goobic paces Heidelberg cross country

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – Heidelberg’s Sophie Goobic paced the women’s cross country team at the Calvin Knight Invitational, running in a personal record of 18:28.5 and finishing 11th. The HU women placed 10th out of 26 teams.

The Student Princes also got a 55th from Dani Blum (19:30).

On the men’s side, Brad Polako finished in 26:20, taking 48th. Heidelberg’s men’s team finished 19th out of 27 teams.

HU goes 0-3 against tough competition

SPRINGFIELD – Heidelberg’s volleyball team lost three matches this weekend.

Looking at the quality of its opponents, the record is understandable.

On Friday night, the Student Princes lost to Calvin, the No. 1 team in Division III, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19. On Saturday, they were upended by No. 5 Hope, 25-12, 25-14, 25-21, then lost to No. 6 Washington, 25-12, 22-25, 25-14, 25-20.

Mohawk graduate Sarah Parker led Heidelberg with 27 kills over the weekend, while Amber Welfle had 21.

Calvert graduate Alexis Frank and Stephanie Romie had 35 assists and 34 assists, respectively. Jubilee Haase had 31 digs.

Heidelberg women’s soccer gains 1st win

Christina Neal scored two of Heidelberg’s three goals, and the Student Princes picked up their first win of the season by topping Bethany College, 3-1.

Christy Anzur also scored for HU, which improved to 1-3-1.

Molly Schriber had six saves for Heidelberg in goal, while Julie Cross had a pair.

Sarah London scored Bethany’s (0-6) lone goal.

TU teams place in top 10

PARKSIDE, Wis. – Tiffin’s men’s and women’s cross country teams each placed in the top 10 Saturday at the UW-Parkside Midwest Open. The men took ninth while the women placed 10th.

On the men’s side, Mike Grunden finished 37th in 26:40.1, while Jessica Kern took 17th in 18:58.34 for the women.
