Prep Roundup: Calvert bests cross-town rivals
Calvert won both doubles matches, getting the edge it needed to nip Columbian, 3-2.
The Senecas moved to 6-1.
Margaret Bowers and Samantha Gase defeated the Tornadoes’ Ashley Niedermier and Sam Krintzline, 6-3, 6-2. The Senecas’ Kerrigan Kwiat and Cassie Recker beat Julianne Peacock and Kristina Talbot-Koehl 6-1, 6-2.
In singles play, Calvert’s lone win came when Laura Haley beat Kayla Magrum, 6-3, 6-0.
Columbian’s Sarah Guzowski beat Madison Daniel 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, while Tiffany Walker beat Regina Hoepf, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Columbian dropped to 4-3.
Rams sweep Redmen
FOSTORIA – Upper Sandusky traveled to Fostoria and took care of the Redmen Thursday, 5-0.
In singles play, the Rams Kilee Saylor topped Erica Moore, 6-1, 6-0. Upper Sandusky’s Nadia English defeated Jessica Kaufman, 6-0, 6-0. In the final singles contest, Taylor Dilley beat Sabra Tate, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Rene Vent and Kayla Gault teamed to beat the Redmen’s Autumn Affholder and Jillian Smith, 6-4, 7-5. Upper Sandusky’s Melissa Latham and Hope Voorhees defeated Destinie Farris and Ellen Guan, 6-0, 6-0.
Daniel delivers for Seneca East
Jack Daniel shot a 41 to tie for medalist, and Seneca East knocked off Old Fort, 174-183, at Mohawk Country Club.
Calvert also played at the event but didn’t field a full team.
Daniel’s 41 tied him with Old Fort’s Adam Alexander for the match’s best score. The Stockaders’ Maison Steyer shot a 42, while the Tigers’ Johnny Diehm added a 43.
Calvert’s three players – Matt Huffman, Bryan Kennedy and Henry Burns – all shot a 47.
Wickham leads TC to a win
T.J. Wickham fired a 41, leading Columbian in a victory over Northern Ohio League rivals Ontario and Sandusky.
Wickham’s score helped the Tornadoes finish with a 176, five strokes ahead of Ontario, which was led by Andrew McGee, who had a 44. Sandusky had the medalist in Kyle Dickman (38), but finished with a 184.
Columbian’s Graydon Bunting shot a 43, while Jack Burkes had a 44.
