Girls Cross Country: TC girls second, Mohawk third at Tiger Classic

ATTICA – Columbian captured second and Mohawk took third Saturday at the Seneca East Tiger Classic.

Anthony Wayne blazed a trail with 48 points for the title. Columbian totaled 98 points and Mohawk tallied 138 points. Both area teams ran in five runners in the top 20 with Mohawk runner Shauna Leeth (21:24.17) finishing 11th and Columbian’s Derra Cheatham (21:33.62) following right behind in 12th.

Mohawk’s McKenzie Richardson clocked in 14th (21:48.94). Not far behind for Columbian, finishing 16th and 17th were Alexis Desjardins (21:53.48) and Cassandra Gooding (21:57.86).

In the open race, Columbian’s Cana Ingalls finished ninth (23:50.93) and Seneca East’s Kirstin Camp came across 10th (23:59.71).

Reeses races to third at Norm Bray

FREMONT – Lakota’s Cariss Reese took third Saturday to lead area runners in the Division II-III race at the Norm Bray Invitational.

Eastwood won the team title with 47 points, while Sandusky Perkins edged Toledo Christian 71-73 for second.

Reese covered the course in 20:39.71 to help the Raiders end 10th (219).

Old Fort runners Kayla Garza (13th, 21:52.87) and Jackie Becker (14th, 22:02.01) grabbed two of the top-15 finishes.

In the open race, Lakota’s Saraya Durst ended 98th (33:35.04) and Miranda Coleman finished 101st (37:19.0).

Volpe-led Mohawks take second

SANDUSKY – St. Wendelin used Victoria Volpe’s eighth as the springboard to second Saturday at the Sandusky St. Mary Run to Fun.

Volpe finished the 3,200-meter race in 13:15.27 for the Mohawks, who scored 92 points. Liberty Center won the team title with 31 points.

Other Mohawks contributing to the runner-up finish were Jocelyn Reinhart (15th, 13:45.1) and Lauren Meyers (16th, 13:51.44).

Calvert took fifth with 125 points. Olivia Smith crossed the line fourth (12:46.92) for the Senecas. Morgan Smith wasn’t far behind in ninth (13.18.83).

Troiano heads up trio of top-10 runners

NORTH ROBINSON – Carey’s Jaclyn Troiano kicked her way to fourth Saturday to top area efforts at the Colonel Crawford Invitational.

Troiano’s finish in 22:29.25 helped the Blue Devils hold off Upper Sandusky 102-115 for fourth.

Amber Spurlock added a 12th (23:28.22) for Carey.

Upper Sandusky had a top-10 placer in Olivia Thomson (22:41.28), who ran seventh. Mary McCaleb posted a time of 23:59.55 to take 20th for the Rams.

Buckeye Central’s Lizbeth Figeuroa took 10th (23:19.95), helping the Buckettes take seventh (164).
