Prep Tennis Roundup: Calvert gets doubles win, but falls to St. Peter’s

Calvert picked up a win at first doubles, but that was all the Senecas could muster Thursday against Mansfield St. Peter’s in a 4-1 defeat.

Daniel Kwiat and Ian Warnement topped Ale Brunetti and Adam Blunk 6-4, 6-4. In the other doubles match, the Calvert duo of Mark Fowler and Danny George lost to Cole Phillips and Brady Rice 6-2, 6-4.

In singles action, Jack Burtis fell to Phil Zitko 6-1, 6-1 while Phillip Boes was defeated by Connor Drake 6-0, 6-2.

Singles sweep fuels TC

WILLARD – Columbian went 3 for 3 in singles competition and scored a 4-1 Northern Ohio League victory Thursday at Willard.

Nick Gaietto dropped Kyle Buurma 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Braden Kuhn beat Conner Robinson 6-2, 6-4 and Austin Crabtree bested Chandler Gibson 6-1, 6-2.

Columbian also got a doubles win from Brandon Berry and Hunter Stark against Noah Lenz and Logan Blanchard 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.

Willard’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles, where Corey Bohach and Brandon Bohach beat Mason McCool and John Obringer 6-0, 6-2.
