Prep Softball Roundup: Bennett blasts Calvert to win
The difference between Calvert and Columbian Friday came down to one person – Gabby Bennett. The Seneca freshman launched a two-run home run and then drove in a third run off a double as Calvert beat Columbian 4-1.
Margaret Bowers added an RBI for Calvert and Taylor Ritzler scored a pair of runs.
Nicole Bickley outdueled Paige Correll in the circle. Bickley went the distance striking out four allowing just three hits. Correll threw six innings allowing two earned runs while striking out seven.
Draper lead Carey
CAREY – It was a big day for Hannah Draper and the Carey Blue Devils.
Draper homered, had three singles and drove in five runs as Carey smacked Arcadia, 12-5.
Sydney Wentling got the win for the Blue Devils, striking out three. Taylor Fletcher and Katie Driggers each drove in two runs. Ali Rymer and Mackenzie Wentling each singled twice for Carey.
NB goes crazy 8s
NORTH BALTIMORE – North Baltimore scored eight runs in the first inning of Friday’s Midland Athletic League game with Old Fort.
Not satisfied, the Tigers scored another eight runs the next inning. They led 16-1 after two innings, and went on to win 17-9.
Megan Wright and Kelsey Gozark did much of the damage, combining for eight hits, five runs scored and four RBIs.
Mackenzie Gillett doubled, scored and drove in two runs for Old Fort, while Alyssa Pence had two hits and two RBIs. Sammy Miller scored twice, had two hits and an RBI. Cheyanne Hernandez got the win, while Pence took the loss.
The Stockaders slipped to 3-14, 2-9 in the MAL.
Wildcats tear up Redmen
FOSTORIA – Woodmore scored first and last against Fostoria to notch a 6-3 victory. Erica Moore took the loss but hammered a home run, and had two RBIs to lead the Redmen. Fostoria falls to 2-24 overall, 1-11 in the Northern Buckeye Conference.
Madie Phillips picked up the win for Woodmore.
