Prep Basketball Roundup: H-L surges away after first quarter

BASCOM – Hopewell-Loudon outscored North Baltimore 33-19 over the middle quarters to turn a close game in a 59-44 Midland Athletic League win.

The Chieftains (10-8, 5-4 MAL) entered the second period clinging to an 11-9 lead before storming off.

Alec Gregg fueled H-L with 23 points, four assists and four rebounds.

Weston Hill added 10 points and Ryan Lommerse registered six boards and six assists.

Jacob Frost popped in 15 points for the Tigers (2-17, 2-7) and Cody Cotterman scored nine.

Blue Jackets ice game early

BETTSVILLE – New Riegel scored all the points it needed in the first quarter and put the game out of reach in the second Friday in an 81-16 Midland Athletic League win over Bettsville.

Korey Williams led everyone with 19 points and Brandyn Reinhart added 12 for the Blue Jackets (16-2, 8-1 MAL), who led 25-3 at the first stop.

Aaron Acree and Chad Cassidy both added eight points, with Acree hauling in six rebounds.

Jacob Grine topped the Bobcats (0-18, 0-9) with six points and Tommy Kipps netted five.

Hahler leads key charge

KANSAS – Ben Hahler scored twice as many points in the third quarter as Lakota to spark Seneca East in a 56-38 Midland Athletic League win.

Hahler and the Tigers entered halftime with a 24-18 lead, but his eight points fueled a 16-4 scoring surge in the third period to put Seneca East in control.

Hahler ended with 26 points for the Tigers (10-8, 5-4 MAL), Nate Phillips scored 11 and Dylan Bordner tossed in 10.

The Raiders (5-13, 2-7) got 13 points from Kody Brewer and seven from Colin Timmons. Brewer also snared six steals, Timmons hauled in eight rebounds, Gavin Sprow had four steals and three assists, and Josh Kirkpatrick dished three assists.

Sessler, Kerr fuel St. Joe

FOSTORIA – Jordan Sessler and Marcus Kerr did a little bit of everything Friday, and it was more than St. Wendelin could handle as Fremont St. Joe coasted to a 62-38 Midland Athletic League win.

Sessler tallied 14 points, five assists and four steals, and Kerr collected 10 points, four assists and four steals for the Crimson Streaks.

Zack Yeckley and Luke Stierwalt each added nine points for St. Joe (14-4, 8-1 MAL), which led 20-5 at the first stop. Nick Root turned in eight points, six rebounds and four steals.

Zach Miller and Gabe Walters both scored nine points for the Mohawks (6-12, 2-7), with Walters hauling in eight boards. Peter Campbell dished four assists.
