Chieftains make big strides
ELMORE – Not a single Chieftain claimed an individual title but three runner-up efforts and two third place finishes helped Hopewell-Loudon finish fourth at the Woodmore Invitational. A year ago at the same invitational, the Chieftains finished 10th.
“Last year we placed in the bottom half of the field at Woodmore, this year we were in third up until the last match,” Hopewell-Loudon coach Travis Traxler said.
Riverdale ran away with the team title, racking up 168 1/2 points while Hopewell-Loudon had 126.
Chet Swartzmiller suffered a 48-second pin in the 106-pound finals, while Lake’s Chris Salaz notched a 11-1 major decision over Hopewell-Loudon’s Tristan Myers in the 145-pound championship match.
Coltan Hossler battled Patrick Henry’s Brandon Bennett in the 285 final but fell 3-0 for second place.
Damion Vitt claimed third at 120 pounds by pinning Swanton’s J.D. Reisinger in 3:25, while Zac Hrabak tallied a 17-7 major decision against Riverdale’s Josh Bushong for third at 160 pounds.
