Community makes the best of the worst
These are the best of times … these are the worst of times!
These are the best of times because The Salvation Army had so many wonderful volunteers within our community who shared their time with us to help others in need. If it were not for the volunteers assisting The Salvation Army by standing kettles, helping with food and toy distribution, then families would not have been blessed like they were.
These are also the best of times because The Salvation Army partnered with Toys for Tots, nine Adopt-a-Families, and five Shop with a Cop families! With the relationships and partnerships of these groups, the Christmas giveaway was a success!
Because of all of the dedicated volunteers who stood long hours day after day in the blistery, cold weather, The Salvation Army was able to raise about $40,000 this year. We were blessed to have 99 volunteers ring bells this season! Thank you! You are making a difference! We would like to recognize our top three volunteers, who raised money by standing long hours throughout the whole season. Thank you to Jonie, who is a faithful volunteer, who raised $5,403.56! Thank you to Izzy, who is another faithful volunteer, who stood many hours in the cold! She earned $2,433.62! Thank you to Mary, another faithful volunteer, who gave up a lot of her time to serve others. Mary earned $2,250.09! We recognize your hard work!
The Tiffin Salvation Army is overjoyed and thankful for our kettle hosts who allowed us to stand for our community. Thank you to Tiffin Ace Hardware, Big Lots, IGA, Kroger, Rural King and Walmart! We could not do this without your help and support! This money raised goes right back into our community and we are able to assist families throughout the year with clothing, food, financial assistance and more!
The Salvation Army also would like to show our appreciation to our sponsors who allowed us to have a counter kettle in their stores. Thank you to AT&T, Bailiwicks Coffee Co., Buffalo Wild Wings, Carmie’s BBQ & Grill, Culligan, Empire 138, Fort Ball, GW’s Fine Food & Spirits, Jeffery Jewelers, Your Legacy Credit Union, Medicine Shoppe, McCartan’s Grocery, Phat Cakes & Cafe, Reino’s Pizza & Pasta, Tom Rodgers Flowers, Sabaidee Coffee House, Shoe Sensation, St. Francis, Subway Market Street, Subway Sandusky Street, Varsity Barber Shop and Xcaret Mexican Restaurant!
The lead organizations who helped us to raise money this season are: North Central Academy, which raised $1, 308.63; Columbian National Honors Society, which raised $1,252.61; The Salvation Army Advisory Board, which raised $1,273.93; and Rotary Club of Tiffin, which raised $1,124. 08!
The Salvation Army in Tiffin was able to provide for 148 families with 267 children and 37 senior citizen families. This effort was successful because of the Tiffin community and our volunteers who helped through our angel tree program.
These are the worst of times for some because without the assistance of The Salvation Army, families would not have had a Christmas meal, warm clothing or gifts for their children. These are also the worst of times for some because of the brutal winter weather we have had this season. Because of The Salvation Army, the community, the volunteers and the partnering relationships, we were able to give away 876 coats, hats, scarves and gloves! As you can see, the worst of times have been overcome because of everyone working together to make a difference in our community.
The Salvation Army is down significantly by funds raised from last year by about $9,000. Even though funds were down, we assisted more people than the prior year. As we are all aware, need has no season. You can still donate all year long by a simple text, “Tiffin” to 41444. We need you! Help us to help others.
We have so much to be thankful for and we are thankful to all of you and all who have helped us this season. Thank you all for being the army behind The Salvation Army!
