Relay raises $106K plus

Relay For Life 2014 of Tiffin has come and gone, and I am happy to say we did a wonderful job! This amazing community came together for the annual Relay For Life of Tiffin and raised more than $106,000 to “Give Cancer the Boot.” Teams still are turning in money and we still have several events coming up to help add to that total:

Tickets are $10 each and include a light lunch, 12 games of bingo with $20 payout per game, raffles,a Chinese auction and door prizes. Just 100 tickets will be sold, so get yours today! July 4th Celebration at Hedges-Boyer Park. Relay volunteers will be selling raffle tickets for a lottery/gift certificate tree, Relay cookbooks will be available for $15 and other fundraisers are planned.

Beggars Day in downtown Tiffin, early August, specific time and date to be determined. Keep an eye out for more details!

We cannot express enough our thanks to each and everyone who supported this event, whether it be by forming a team, being a sponsor, buying a luminaria, volunteering, participating in the ceremonies at the Relay For Life, supporting a team fundraiser, buying a candy bar or helping us promote our event. As you can see, the ways of support are endless. It truly means the world to each of us the continued support that this wonderful community gives to the American Cancer Society.

To those who work endlessly on the planning of this event, thank you! All of you are very special individuals and we are all working toward one goal and that is to “create a world with more birthdays.” We all have been touched one way or another by cancer and together we can make a difference, and that is exactly what we are doing. So, again, keep up the great work and let’s finish the fight!

This year, not only did the community take up the fight, but so did our area schools. Columbian High School hosted its annual Strike Out Cancer event, organized by Coach Curt Mellott. This incredible event raised $3,000 for the American Cancer Society and plans for next year’s event are going to be even bigger. Thank you to all area students, teachers and parents for your support, and we look forward to working with you again in the future!

A heart-felt thank you to Autumnwood Care Center for its continued contribution. We appreciate the time and energy in everything it has done for us this year and every year. Thank you for once again hosting our beautiful survivor dinner! Everyone always does such a fabulous job, and our survivors truly enjoy the evening. Thank you for the luminaria sponsorship, sales, prep and distribution during Relay! Without your support, Relay would not be the same!

We also would like to send out a great big show of appreciation to Jolly’s Drive-In owner Diane Hassinger for hosting the annual Jolly’s Day. This year, our volunteers raised more than $400. Thank you, Diane, for allowing us to take over your establishment for the day! We appreciate you and your employees so very much for opening your doors to us!

To Marco’s Pizza and Manager Jacole Eaton, thank you so much for your continued contribution to Relay For Life! Feeding hungry volunteers is tough work; but you keep us fed so we can keep doing our thing!

Again, to the city of Tiffin, Mayor Aaron Montz, Deb Reamer, Mike Huffman, Matt Coleman and the residents of this community, Relay teams and committee from the bottom of our hearts, thank you! You all are what make this event the success that it is.
