Shorter name, big mission
A tip of the cap to the former Seneca Soil & Water Conservation?District for shortening its name. Now the Seneca Conservation District, it unveiled its new name and logo this week at the Seneca County Fair.
Ironically, the name has been shortened because its mission has expanded. As Outreach Coordinator Beth Diesch explained, “It’s not that we don’t think soil and water conservation is important anymore. We’re still working with those. We just want to include all those other natural resources.
“Seneca Conservation District has been helping with more than just soil and water for at least a decade,” Diesch said. “One part of the update is to reflect that work in our name, the real focus is conservation of all natural resources.”
And in a nod to its past, the organization’s new logo incorporates visual references to soil and water. In an effort to conserve resources, SCD now offers an online newsletter. Visit
