Thanks for helping feed folks in need
Hats off to members of Knights of Columbus in Tiffin and St. Francis Gaspar in New Riegel for planning to hand out 20,000 pounds of food to needy individuals this morning. Starting at 9 a.m., food from West Ohio Food Bank is to be given away at the K of C parking lot at 49 E. Perry St.
Thanks also to everyone who has contributed food to West Ohio Food Bank and other food pantries in our area.
Thank you, Mr. Buckley
This evening, Joseph Buckley of Tiffin is to receive the veteran of the year award from the Seneca County Veterans Service Commission.
Buckley served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943-46. But that’s not the only reason he is being honored as veteran of the year. Buckley, you see, is responsible – quite literally – for the Junior Home Memorial Park at Huss Street and Riverside Drive.
Nearly 30 years ago, the former Homekid suggested the memorial for the 74 Junior Home residents who died in World War I and World War II. Soon after, the memorial was built – and the former Marine has been maintaining the park daily ever since.
So, hats off and a salute to Joseph Buckley, a deserving recipient of the veteran of the year award.
