Robert Francis Felter
Deacon Robert “Bob” F. Felter, 90, of Bloomville, passed away Sunday Sept. 17, 2017, at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born Feb. 25, 1927, in St. Stephens, to Jacob and Regina (Wechter) Felter. He married Marilyn J. Boren Oct. 25, 1947, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky, and she preceded him in death March 6, 1998.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry (J.R. Riestenberg) Felter of Lima, Christopher (Karon) Felter of Willard, Gary “Chip” (Marilyn) Felter of Attica and Marty (Teresa) Felter of Republic; two daughters, Kathy Kline of New Albany and Jody (Brian) Shoup of Spartanburg, North Carolina; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Wilbur Felter; and three sisters, Mary Felter, Faye Chaikin and Ruby Scheueler.
He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Attica. He was ordained as a deacon May 18, 1991, in Toledo, at Our Lady, Queen of Most Holy Cathedral by the Most Rev. James R. Hoffman. He was a 4th degree member of Fr. Anthony Teolis Knights of Columbus Council No. 3062 in Attica, former 30-year board member of Bliss Memorial Library, Bloomville, and a charter member of US Auto Club that sanctions Indy 500.
He was a farmer for 50 years and was very active in the NFO, serving on its state board and was one of the area farmers who started the liquid fertilizer plant in Bascom.
He was an avid Cleveland Indians baseball fan, and enjoyed auto racing, and attending every consecutive year of the Indianapolis 500 since 1948.
A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at St. Stephen’s Chapel of Our Lady of Hope Parish on CR 6 in St. Stephens with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery in New Washington.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR. 19, Bloomville. The rosary will be prayed and led by the Rev. Paul Fahrbach at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at the funeral home.
