Harold J. Davenport, 74, of Attica, passed Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.

He was born March 21, 1942, in Green Springs, to the late Lewis L. and Helen M. (Ward) Davenport.

Mr. Davenport was an Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Green Springs High School, class of 1961, and retired from both Whirlpool and as assistant police chief of Green Springs Police Department in 2000. He was a member of Bellevue Eagles Post 490 and Green Springs VFW Post 6067. Harold enjoyed gardening, woodworking and traveling.

Mr. Davenport is survived by his fiance, Edna Beamer of Attica; daughter, Darlene (Dave) Selvey of Clyde; three brothers, Eldon Davenport of East Brewton, Alabama, Sanford (Starr) Davenport of Sandusky and Marvin (Barbara) Davenport of Fremont; sister, Beverly (James) Barr of Vickery; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Donald H. Davenport.

Friends will be received 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 295 W. Tiffin Street, Attica.

His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Attica United Methodist Church. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Clyde, with military rites provided by Seneca County United Veterans Council.
