Joyce S. Geyh

Joyce S. Geyh, 82, of Tiffin, passed away peacefully at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at her residence in Tiffin.

Joyce was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Malona, on the island of Rhodes, Greece, to the late Savas and Kyriakoula (Giagia) Georgalas. She married Ronzil Layne Selmon June 30, 1954, in Glenville, W.Va., and he preceded her in death. She then married Arthur M. Geyh June 18, 1968, in Brookville, Ind., and he survives in Tiffin.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Jo (David) Barth of Port Clinton and Leigh Ann (James) Borgen of Cary, N.C.; a son, Michael Layne (Sarah Horn) Selmon of Alma, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Paula Geyh of New York, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Suava) Georgalis of Braselton, Ga.; and a sister, Mary (Robert) Kilgore of San Antonio, Texas.

Joyce retired after 34 years of teaching elementary and junior high school in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio, having finished her career teaching art at East Junior High, Tiffin. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Tiffin, where she served as an elder and was active on many committees, the Women and Lydia circles, vacation bible school and Women A.C.T.

Joyce was also active in the Tiffin Education Association and Tiffin Arts Council, including service as president for both. She worked with many projects for the Seneca County Fair, The Ritz Theatre, local parades and the Heritage Festival. Joyce was a graduate of Weirton, W. Va., High School and later received a bachelor’s degree from Glenville State Teachers College and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. She continued her art education by earning additional credits from Bowling Green State University and Miami University.

A private family funeral for Joyce will take place with burial to be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin. Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting the family with their arrangements.
