He was born May 10, 1919, to the late Clarence Everett and Blanche E. (Abbott) Wells in Portage Township. He married Betty L. Ritter on Oct. 23, 1942, and she survives.

He is also survived by one son, Thomas L. (Katharine) Wells of Findlay; four daughters, Bette Jo (Thomas) Hammer-Murphy, Paula S. (Martin Windstein) Oman, Jacki L. Wunderlin, all of Findlay, and Pamela L. (Anthony) Paulus of Tiffin; two sisters, Deane Faine of Mt. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1937. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He started working for Sears and Roebuck Co. in 1944, and retired after working there for 40 years. Joe was a hardworking man and was extremely dedicated to his family.

Joe’s family and friends would like to thank this special man for all his generosity throughout the years. He never wanted accolades. Joe would want the end of his life to be honored in the same reserved manner.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date, where full military rites will be performed by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and/or the Hancock County Humane Society.
