Ruth Appell, 61, of Fostoria, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at her home.
She was born Nov. 24, 1951, in Fostoria, to Robert H. and Virgina R. (Wilhelm) Appell.
Surviving are her daughter, Zoe Appell West of Fostoria; sister, Gail (Ron) Reinhard of Hermitage, Tenn.; and two brothers, David C. Appell of Fostoria and Michael R. Appell of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Margaret Kammeyer.
Ruth was a 1969 Fostoria High School graduate. At 17, knowing she wanted to be a flight attendant, she moved to Washington, D.C. Ruth became an attendant for United Airlines when she was 20 and remained there for 24 years. Ruth gave birth to her daughter, Zoe, and devoted herself to being a good mother. Then, deciding to be closer to her family, she moved back to Fostoria. Ruth became an advertising representative for the Fostoria Review Times and continued to do so for 10 years.
She loved traveling and had a passion for the growth and knowledge it brought her. She was able to travel not only all over the United States, but also Spain, Italy, the UK, Switzerland, Israel, Egypt, and she back-packed across New Zealand. Ruth’s favorite, however, was Ireland. In more recent years, Ruth enjoyed just staying put and doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, as well as many hours watching the local bald eagles.
She was an animal lover and had several cats in her life, but especially adored Sophie and Sneakers, Zoe’s “siblings.”
Ruth truly enjoyed her life and could honestly say she did everything she wanted to.
