Robert F. Wilt

Robert F. Wilt, 88, of Upper Sandusky, passed away at 10:26 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky.

Robert was born Jan. 30, 1925, in Tiffin, to William and Minnie (Mathias) Wilt. He married Ruth E. Beamer April 21, 1961, in Tiffin, and she survives in Upper Sandusky.

Also surviving are their four children, Robert A. (Cheryl) Wilt of Tiffin, Dennis R. (Laura) Young of Nevada, Thomas A. (Patricia) Young of Bucyrus and daughter, Lisa A. (Peter) Barnes of Upper Sandusky; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Jody Wilt of Ravenna.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey Wilt; a daughter, Vicki Young; a brother, William; and two sisters, Nellie Wilt and Virginia Dunlap.

Bob retired from General Electric, Tiffin, after 39 years as a machine operator. After his retirement, he worked as a driver for the Wyandot County Council on Aging for 18 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served his country during World War II.

Bob was a member for over 50 years of the Union-Salem United Methodist Church, rural Upper Sandusky. He also was a member of the following organizations: American Legion Post No. 225, Upper Sandusky, former member of the Legion Post, Sycamore, Wyan-Dots Camping Club and the Bucyrus Buckaroos Square Dancing Club. He also participated every year at the Leafy Oak Coon Dog Trials, Kenton.

For hobbies, Bob enjoyed being outside, whether it was working on the yard or in the garden, hunting deer, and especially coon, bowling various leagues in Tiffin, Sycamore and Upper Sandusky, going to garage sales, and taking care of his cats, “Bootsy” and “Kitsy”.

The funeral for Robert F. Wilt will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Matt Garrabrant officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.

Visitations will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
