4-year-old’s body found in house after blaze

ELYRIA (AP) — Authorities say a fire has destroyed a house in northeast Ohio and the body of a 4-year-old boy was recovered from the home after the blaze.

Officials with the Elyria Fire Department say the fire broke out about 3 p.m. Saturday. Fire officials say four people inside the home made it out safely, but someone told them there was a child still inside. Fire officials say the house was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Fire Inspector Paul Males says the boy’s body was found in an upstairs bedroom after the fire. Authorities didn’t immediately release the child’s name.

Fire officials were trying to determine the cause of the blaze.

Boy missing after swimming in Lake Erie

CLEVELAND (AP) — Authorities say a 13-year-old has gone missing while swimming in Lake Erie off a Cleveland beach, and crews continue to search for him.

The search continued Sunday for the boy who Cleveland police say disappeared beneath waves while swimming off of Edgewater Beach around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Authorities have not released the boy’s name.

Officials with Cleveland Metroparks, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Cleveland police and fire departments are among those who have been searching for the boy since Friday night.

The search has employed divers, sonar technology and helicopters.

2 injured as driver eludes Secret Service

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Two people have been injured and a third is at large after a police chase initiated when a Secret Service officer saw a driver going the wrong way in downtown Washington.

News outlets report the chase ended in a head-on collision in suburban Virginia on Interstate 66.

The Secret Service said one of its officers spotted a car traveling the wrong way on I St. NW in Washington about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. The officer tried to stop the car, but it drove off and crossed into Arlington, Virginia, traveling the wrong way on I-66.
