Sycamore teen dies in accident

A Sycamore teenager died after an accident on CH 330 in Wyandot County's Eden Township Sunday afternoon. Heather J. Raypole, 17, was driving a Ford Taurus west on CH 330 when her vehicle hit a patch of snow on the road, causing her to lose control of the vehicle and go left of center into oncoming traffic, according to Wyandot County Sheriff's Office. The vehicle was facing south when it was struck by an eastbound Dodge Journey driven by Ryan Bennett, 26, of Marion, according to the sheriff's office. Raypole was transported by Wyandot East EMS to Wyandot Memorial Hospital and then was taken by Life Flight to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased, according to the sheriff's office. Sheriff Mike Hetzel said he believed Bennett went to Wyandot Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passengers in Bennett's vehicle — Hannah Bennett, 23, of Nevada, and Jacob Smith, 23, of Harpster — were treated at the scene, he said. All four people involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts, Hetzel said. No charges will be filed, he said. Personnel from Wyandot County Sheriff's Office, Wyandot East Fire and Rescue, and Wyandot County EMS & JAWS assisted at the scene of the accident, according to the sheriff's office. The accident was reported about 4:45 p.m.
