Pedestrian struck by vehicle dies

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle on South Sandusky Street Wednesday has died.

Shirley M. Schultz, 80, of Tiffin, died early Thursday morning, according to Tiffin Police Department.

According to the police department, Candi Ludwig, 41, of Tiffin, was driving a Ford Explorer. The SUV struck Schultz in the northbound lane about 6 p.m.

Schultz was taken to Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital by Tiffin Fire Rescue Division.

Life Flight could not fly due to weather conditions, and Schultz was transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center, according to the police department.

Schultz did not have identification with her. Identification and notification had been made to a family member and friend before her death, according to the police department.

Ludwig was not hurt, Sgt. LaVerne Keefe of Tiffin Police Department said.

Schultz was crossing from the west to the east side of South Sandusky Street at a point well away from the crosswalk at South Sandusky and Ella streets, according to the police department.

According to information from Chief Fred Stevens, he did not anticipate any citations or charges being filed.
