TU president charged with OVI, speed


Tiffin University’s president has a hearing this week in Ottawa County Municipal Court on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and speed.

Lillian B. Schumacher, 52, of Tiffin, was charged with OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor, and speed, a minor misdemeanor, according to court records.

The alleged violations occurred at 12:18 a.m. Aug. 31, and the charges were filed by State Highway Patrol Sept. 4, court records state.

The result of Schumacher’s test was 0.117, and she allegedly was traveling 44 mph in a 35 mph area, according to court records.

A court spokeswoman said Schumacher has driving privileges. Her administrative license suspension was stopped until further order of the court, the spokeswoman said.

Schumacher has a pretrial hearing at 1:15 p.m. Friday.

She became TU’s interim president in January 2016 and was named its president in June 2016, according to the university’s website.
