Local photography book now available

A recently published book of photography has been made available for final holiday gift giving. The book, "Our Town & Country: A Photographic Journey in Tiffin – Seneca," is a tribute to the landscape, architecture, people and places of the community. Additionally, the publisher has chosen to donate 100 percent of the profits from sales of the book to non-profit East Green Concert Series, ensuring another summer of musical entertainment free of charge. "Our Town & Country" was photographed by Tiffin businessman and philanthropist Andrew Kalnow, with art and design by Audrey Burkholder. Inspired by Mr. Kalnow's regular bike and car rides into the Seneca County countryside, the photographs reflect the appreciative eye of someone who has seen the county at its best and worst, and has dedicated himself to improving the quality of life for residents and visitors to the community. Over the years, the Kalnow-Frost family has contributed to the creation of local public spaces including Frost-Kalnow Stadium, the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, East Green amphitheater and park, countless other causes. Kalnow left a career in Chicago to return to Tiffin in 2002 to purchase and reopen National Machinery. He and his wife, Cindy, moved here permanently in 2012. Since his return, he has continued to put his business skills, foundation funds and passion into the community. In the book's forward, Kalnow sums up what drew him to visually investigate the scenery of Seneca County: "There is depth, richness and beauty in a simple country vista of field, horizon and sky. Punctuate the landscape with a foreground of different shaped, colored and situated barns (which are scattered aplenty across Seneca's fertile farm lands) and I see poetic imagery worthy of memorializing." Sections of the 80-page book are laid out into visual subject areas, including: • Country which features lush farm fields, barns, houses, churches and country roads that are intensified by skies sometimes moody and dramatic, other times blue and cloudless. • Rivers and Railroads captures the Sandusky river through early morning mist, the picturesque, peaceful scene of water flowing over a dam at sunset, the impressive power of a locomotive engine and railroad track laid out as far as the eye can see. • Nature Tales and Trails contains goldenrod-filled meadows, hiking trails and a delightful waterfall off the beaten path. • Town, the largest section of the book, groups together downtown Tiffin's restored facades, along with views of a welcoming town center, with its farmers market, Seneca County Justice Center, the historic Frost Parkway/Fort Ball district and East Green.
