Deputy, Attica woman hurt in accident

A Seneca County Sheriff's Office deputy and an Attica woman were hurt in an accident on US 224 east of TR 159 Saturday evening. Trooper Margaret Clay of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Deputy Keegan Walter, 28, of Tiffin, was traveling east on US 224 in a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria cruiser. Trooper Richard Donovan of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Maisen Machiusi, 18, of Attica, was traveling east on US 224 in a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. He said he was informed Walter was responding to a report of a deer in the road. Donovan said there was something that looked like a deer in the road, Walter started to slow down and Machiusi's Cruze struck the Ford. He said Walter did not have his lights activated at the time. Walter was taken by Seneca County Sheriff's Office to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and Machiusi was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Donovan said. Walter and Machiusi both were wearing their seatbelts, Clay said. Donovan said no citations had been issued and the accident was under investigation Saturday. The accident was reported at 6:25 p.m. and Tiffin Fire Rescue Division, Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, State Highway Patrol, Seneca County Sheriff's Office and John's Welding & Towing responded to the scene.
