ATTICA — Crews responded to a train derailment at East CR 36 and SR 4 Saturday morning.

Deputy Denny Wilkinson of Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said one gondola car, an open-topped rail car, ran off the tracks. He said the front wheels on the car had come loose from the derailment.

Wilkinson said the car was empty and was not hauling anything hazardous.

Nobody was injured in the derailment and it posed no environmental hazard, he said.

SR 4 was closed at US 224 in Attica and SR 162 while crews worked at the scene, Wilkinson said. SR 4 was opened back up about 5 p.m., according to information from a Seneca County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The incident was reported at 9:46 a.m. and personnel from Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Seneca County Engineer’s Office and Norfolk Southern responded to the scene.
