Crash on US 6 Friday morning claims life of Fremont woman

A Fremont woman died in an accident on US 6 near SR 635 in Sandusky County Friday morning.

According to a release from the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol, Aleksandar Maslenjak, 25, of Akron, was traveling east on US 6 in a 2013 Freightliner tractor flatbed trailer with Manojlo Maslenjak, 53, of Akron. Gail Ridoutt, 64, of Fremont, was traveling west on US 6 in a 2018 Subaru Forester, it states.

The release states Ridoutt swerved left of center and struck the 2013 Freightliner head-on, and as the Subaru spun back into the westbound lanes, it was struck by a 2012 Ford XLT van, and both vehicles came to a rest off the north side of US 6. The Ford was driven by Avery Bookmyer, 23, of Lindsey, and passengers included Jay Milton, 47, of Fremont, and Eva Sanchez, 36, of Gibsonburg, the release states.

Ridoutt was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. Bookmyer, Milton and Sanchez were transported by Sandusky County EMS to Fremont Memorial Hospital to be treated with minor injuries, the release states.

Everybody involved was wearing their seatbelts, it states.

The accident was under investigation Friday and impaired or distracted driving did not appear to be a factor in the accident, the release states.

The accident was reported at 8:45 a.m. and Sandusky County EMS, Lindsey Volunteer Fire Department, State Highway Patrol, Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Lucas County Coroner’s Office and Madison’s Towing and Recovery responded to the scene.
