Youngsters compete in pedal pull

ATTICA — Young pedal pull competitors raced toward a full pull at the Attica Independent Fair Thursday.

Reed Weaver, 4, of Willard, participated in his second pull and placed first in his class. The youngster’s day also included plans to participate in peewee showmanship.

Weaver had practiced for the pedal tractor pull. His family has a lime green Steiger pedal tractor at home.

“Sometimes, I don’t ride it,” he said.

What’s the secret to a pedal pull?

Weaver shared what his dad tells him: “Go fast” and “don’t stop.”

His sister, Regan, 7, also participated in the pull. This was her first year competing, and she, too, had practiced.

“We do it in our driveway,” she said.

She said the family practices “once a week.”

Regan achieved a full pull Thursday. She said she enjoys doing the pedal pull.

“Just because I like the fair,” she said.

Today’s pedal pull is at 5 p.m. in the pavilion. The pedal pull finals are 4 p.m. Saturday.
