FOSTORIA — Firefighters from three fire departments responded to a train car fire at the CSX railyard near Bulger and Town streets Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 3 p.m., and personnel from Fostoria Fire Division, Bascom Joint Fire District and Kansas Volunteer Fire Department responded.

Chief Brian Herbert of Fostoria Fire Division said a railcar full of coke, which is a by-product of crude oil, was on fire.

“It comes out of the plant naturally hot,” he said.

It took crews about an hour and a half to extinguish the fire. No one was hurt, he said.

It was the third railcar fire in the past month.

Herbert said he did not know why there have been so many.

He said he believed the car that burned Monday was the same car that was on fire over the weekend.
