Renewal levy before TCS voters

A renewal levy is to go before Tiffin City School District voters Tuesday.

“This is not a new tax,” TCS Superintendent Gary Barber said.

The 10-year levy is for 4.2 mills. It would generate $1.6 million annually and cost the owner of a $100,000 home $11 a month.

Funds generated are to go toward the general operations of the district, including transportation, utilities, maintenance, safety and security needs, staffing, technology, teaching materials and equipment.

Voters originally approved the levy in 2004 for 5 mills.

Barber said the district spends $3,000 less per pupil than the state average and the district has a graduation rate 12.5 percent above the state average. Third-grade reading also is 20 percent above the state average, he said.

“With these stats, the community can see the good results coming from the district,” Barber said.
