Fostoria man sentenced to community control

A Fostoria man pleaded guilty to a charge during a hearing in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Kelbley’s courtroom.

Billy J. McElrath Jr., 33, waived indictment and proceeded with a bill of information charging him with domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony, court records state.

Kelbley sentenced him to three years of community control.

McElrath must undergo counseling, substance abuse rehabilitation and/or treatment as determined necessary by the probation office and/or any mental health professional, court records state.

He also must be evaluated and complete a substance abuse rehabilitation program through Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services and undergo random drug and/or alcohol urinalysis as directed by Adult Parole Authority.

Outstanding educator nominations open

The Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services presents the Outstanding Educator Award during the annual New Educator’s Breakfast each August. The award honors an educator who has exemplified vision, leadership qualities and commitment to the improvement of education.

Name seniors for service award

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Inc. is accepting nominations for the Outstanding Senior Citizen and Community Service Awards.

Deadline for nominations is May 25.

Award recipients from a nine-county area are to be honored with a special ceremony at the Area Agency on Aging at Hawkins Corner.

Nominees are to be at least 60 years of age, legal residents of Ohio for at least five years and have made significant contributions to the community.

Plant sale this weekend

Seneca County Master Gardeners are to have their annual plant sale 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday during the Tiffin Flea Market.

There are to be perennial flowers, hostas, unusual lilies, sedium, fairy gardens, herbs and more.

First Step to host painting event

FOSTORIA — First Step — as part of its Women’s Enrichment Series — is to host pallet painting at 6 p.m. Monday at 1099 Columbus Ave.

The program is presented by Jess Lang.

Cost is $25 if there are 10 or more participants and $30 if there are nine or fewer participants.
