Upper Sandusky resident appointed to seat
Ohio House Speaker Pro Tempore Kirk Schuring, R-Canton, announced Wednesday a recommendation for the appointment of the vacant 87th House District seat.
According to a release, Riordan McClain, of Upper Sandusky, has been recommended by a screening panel to fill the vacancy. McClain has experience in the private sector as the director of finance and customer service at Doc Investments LLC.
McClain is expected to be sworn in during the House’s voting session Wednesday.
The seat became vacant after Wes Goodman, R-Cardington, resigned in November amid accusations of inappropriate behavior in his Columbus office.
The district includes the southwest portion of Seneca County, part of Marion County and all of Wyandot, Crawford and Morrow counties.
Fire department meeting set for Monday
McCutchenville Fire Department has set its annual meeting at 8 p.m. Monday at the firehouse in McCutchenville.
Heating bill assistance available
The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging may be able to help Seneca County residents with winter heating bills.
According to a release from the organization, the Home Energy Assistance Program may provide assistance to people using electric, wood, coal natural gas, propane and kerosene.

The organization’s office is located in Ontario, but the agency covers a nine-county area including Seneca.
Leadership Seneca County to host workshop
Leadership Seneca County Coordinator Kim Radison is to lead a workshop addressing effective communication between different types of individuals 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Seneca County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services.
