Wrongful death lawsuit filed after fatal accident names Fostoria driver

A man is suing a Fostoria transportation company and a driver following the death of his wife in an accident in Michigan April 17.

The wrongful death lawsuit was filed in Seneca County Common Pleas Court on behalf of Elmer Rheinecker, executor of the estate of Janet T. Rheinecker, against Jeffrey A. Bowling of Gibsonburg, Bowling Transportation Ltd. and Inc. in Fostoria. It seeks more than $25,000.

The lawsuit states Janet Rheinecker was killed when a Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by Bowling failed to yield to slowed traffic on US 23. Bowling collided with the rear of a Ford 350, which landed on her 2007 Lexus, it states.

The lawsuit accuses Bowling of turning his head away from the freeway and upcoming traffic and looking into a box on his passenger’s seat for a can of chewing tobacco.

Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff is to hear the case.
