Sheriff suspects overdose in jail
A Seneca County Jail inmate was taken to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital after being found unresponsive in a jail cell early Tuesday morning.
Seneca County Sheriff Bill Eckelberry said he believed Karah Knezevich, 21, of Tiffin, overdosed.
He said Knezevich was in a vehicle involved in a traffic stop by Findlay Police Department, and authorities learned there was a bench warrant for her through Seneca County Common Pleas Court.
A Seneca County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked her up and took her to the sheriff’s office.
Tiffin Police Department visited the jail to serve Knezevich a failure-to-appear warrant, Eckelberry said.
“That’s when they found her unresponsive,” he said.
Eckelberry said Knezevich had been at the jail for about an hour and a half to two hours, and she was found unresponsive in a cell in A-Block, a block for women.
Eckelberry said he thought the alleged overdose was due to heroin. When she allegedly used the drugs was under investigation Tuesday, he said.
Knezevich had returned to Seneca County Jail and was on medical watch Tuesday, he said.
Tiffin Fire Rescue Division and Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department personnel responded to the jail.
