TCS meeting this evening

Tiffin City Board of Education is to have a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. today in the cafetorium at Tiffin Middle School, 103 Shepherd Drive.

The purpose is to approve the hiring of employees and contracts. The board also is to enter into executive session to discuss employment of public employees and negotiations.

Water line work planned

The intersection of Jefferson and Main streets is to be closed 6-11:30 a.m. Thursday for installation of new water lines.

Elections panel to gather

Seneca County Board of Elections is to have a special meeting at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Board of Elections office to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of a public employee.

Other items of business include approval of 2014 general election ballot issues, allocation of voting equipment, allocation of paper ballots, review of election supplies and other equipment and the board’s budget.

Marketing committee to meet

Tiffin City Board of Education’s Marketing Committee is to meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Administration Building, 244 S. Monroe St.

Woman killed in dog attack

HAMILTON (AP) – A southwest Ohio sheriff announced a woman attacked by a family dog has died.

A statement from Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said a witness called 911 Monday afternoon and said a dog was attacking a woman. Jones said 59-year-old Cindy Whisman was attacked in the backyard of her Madison Township home and suffered multiple injuries to her face, neck and body.

Jones said the woman’s husband and a child were at the home during the attack but weren’t injured.

Authorities aren’t sure what prompted the attack and are investigating, Jones said.

Zoo gorilla delivers 1st baby

CINCINNATI (AP) – A gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo has given birth to her first baby.

Officials said the gorilla born Monday morning to 11-year-old Asha is healthy and weighs about 5 pounds.

The zoo now has nine western lowland gorillas, including the father, Jomo. This is the 49th baby gorilla born at the zoo and Jomo’s second baby.
