Auditor certifies AVR EMS levy

ATTICA – AVR Joint EMS District board members appointed Barb Charlton as the EMT director and Dennis Hanlon as assistant director Wednesday evening. Board members decided the director and assistant would be considered for appointment annually.

Seneca County Auditor Julie Adkins has certified the proposed 1.5-mill levy to be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot to generate $93,000 to meet expenses for the EMT program. If passed, cost to the owner of a $100,000 home would be $52.50 annually.

The levy provides a stipend of $3.50 per hour for EMTs on duty, salaries of $1,250 for the director, $1,000 for the assistant and $4,750 for the clerk. Other expenses include payment of $20 per meeting for board members and audit costs.

Members discussed additional costs related to coverage for the Independent Attica Fair and for the speedway.

Charlton said the EMT squad would be participating in the Safety City program sponsored by the Attica Police Department 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 2 at the K of C. The booth is to be an opportunity for recruitment and to provide information about the EMTs. They also are to be able to answer questions regarding the levy.

Another meeting has been set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the firehouse with Adkins to be in attendance.
