Musical ‘The Producers’ hits the stage
HURON – The Huron Playhouse is to open its 2014 summer theater season with “The Producers” at 8 p.m. today through Saturday. Performances take place at the historic McCormick Junior High School, 325 Ohio St., Huron.
Winner of 12 Tony Awards, including best musical, this Mel Brook’s adaptation of “The Producers” tells the story of a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer, Max, and a nerdy, young accountant, Leo. The pair concoct a scheme to raise thousands of dollars by promoting a new, large-scale musical production, gain funding from backers, and then put on a flop of a show. With the money left over, the pair will be rich. But one thing goes wrong – the show is a smash hit.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for students and seniors and $14 for children younger than 12. Visit www.thehuronplayhouse.org or call (419) 443-4744.
Celebrate ‘Dance of the Mayflies’
PORT CLINTON More than 25 artists are to participate in Thursday’s Art Walk in downtown Port Clinton. The Ottawa County Bluegrass Band and LEAP – Lake Erie Adventure Play – are to be featured. Bergman’s Orchard Farm Market and the Ida Rupp Library also will be part of the event, titled “Dance of the Mayflies.”
The free, family-friendly downtown art celebration is to feature artists, live music and galleries, restaurants and other businesses taking part 5-8 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month. Browse on the sidewalks, in the galleries and businesses, stop at a downtown restaurant or listen to the band. Kids can create their own adventures with cardboard, fabric and other recycled materials at LEAP’s “pop-up playground” at Friendship Park.
