Man taken to hospital after assault

FOSTORIA – A man was taken by Fostoria Fire Division to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital after reportedly being struck on the head with a beer bottle Saturday evening.

A Seneca County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said the incident occurred on Hughes Street in Poplar Village Mobile Home Park. A woman who lives in the area reported at 8:41 p.m. she thought there could have been a fight or an assault, and a man was unconscious but breathing. Another caller who was in the area reported a man had been hit over the head by a beer bottle, the spokeswoman said.

Deputy Christopher Potter said no one had been charged or arrested as of Saturday night.

“We’re not too sure what’s going on. Charges are pending,” he said.

Potter, who did not know the alleged victim’s identity, said statements needed to be taken from witnesses at a later date. The case probably will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review, he said.

The incident was under investigation Saturday night.

Personnel from Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Bascom Joint Fire District, Fostoria Fire Division and Fostoria Police Department assisted.
