Auditor honors TCS treasurer

Ohio State Auditor Dave Yost spent the morning in Tiffin City Schools Wednesday talking to students and presenting the district’s treasurer an auditor award.

Yost discussed the levels of state and federal government and how his job as auditor plays into those, while visiting Brian Colatruglio’s government class at Columbian High School.

He also discussed how he came to politics. He said he began as a prosecutor in his hometown of Delaware.

“How I came into politics was an accident. It just happened,” Yost said.

In 1999 while practicing law, Yost said the county auditor position became available and he decided to run.

Yost is up for re-election in November.

The visit from Yost was prompted by Tiffin City Schools Treasurer Sharon Perry earning the Ohio Auditor of State Award for fiscal year 2013.

Yost said only 5 percent of organizations in the state receive the award.

“It was a team effort and the act of great leadership,” Yost said.
