Mall fire still under investigation

The investigation into what caused a fire at Tiffin Mall early Sunday morning continues.

William Ennis, chief of Tiffin Fire and Rescue, said Monday afternoon officials still are investigating the cause of the fire, which broke out in a back store room on the north side of the mall. The room was being used by Heidelberg University’s track and field program for indoor practice.

Although most stores at the mall were closed Sunday due to the fire, Ennis said stores were open Monday.

Stevie Shook, store manager of Label Shopper, said Monday the store and its merchandise were not affected by the fire. She said because of a slight smell left from mats that burned in the fire, HEPA air filters were running in the store.

A worker at J.C. Penney said Monday the store remained open and merchandise was not at all affected by the fire.

Maurice’s remained closed Monday because merchandise had to be inspected before the store could reopen, a manager said.

She said clothing and other items did not appear to be affected though. The manager said she expects the store to reopen today.
