School to reschedule homecoming
BETTSVILLE – Bettsville Local School District is seeking to reschedule its homecoming festivities after poor weather conditions and an accident on CR 31 involving two students prompted the cancellation of its plans.
According to information from the school, the basketball game Friday was postponed due to weather, and the school planned to have all homecoming festivities Saturday. But, an accident involving students Saturday afternoon and road conditions remaining poor led the school to postpone Saturday’s dance.
Michelle Dantuono, K-6 principal, said Bettsville and Carey officials had concerns about Carey athletes traveling to Friday’s game. Bettsville officials thought it was all right to have Saturday’s dance, but decided to postpone the dance out of respect for the students involved in the accident and because of concerns with road conditions and students traveling after dark, she said.
Dantuono said both girls involved in the crash – Shaneal Endicott and Alexa Dorsey – are seniors at Bettsville High School. It was her understanding they were going out for dinner before the dance when the accident occurred. At least one has returned to school, she said.
According to the school’s website, the game is to be Jan. 31, and the dance is to be Feb. 1.
“(It is) tentative as long as we can get Carey, if they’re open,” Dantuono said.
