Altrusa readies for Sunday bridal fair

The Altrusa Bridal Fair is Sunday, and organizers are transforming the event from a traditional bridal fair into The Bridal Fair and So Much More.

Mary Lou Harrison, chairwoman of Tiffin’s Altrusa club, said the event is changing from being centered on brides and wedding planning to including a variety of party and event planners. Harrison said the vendors and displays at the fair not only are beneficial for brides-to-be, but also can help anyone planning a graduation, anniversary or other kind of party.

She said the goal of The Bridal Fair and So Much More is to “alleviate some of the worry” often felt by event planners and the many details involved in the planning process.

She said this year’s fair will include not only its classic prize basket for a bride, but a second prize basket has been added, which other guests will have the chance to win. The baskets, Harrison said, are valued at approximately $1,000 each, and are filled with various donations from vendors and community members. A third basket contains $800 worth of prizes.

In addition to the event’s grand prize baskets, prizes will be given away every 15 minutes and a 50/50 drawing also will take place during the fair, she said.

Tickets to The Bridal Fair and So Much More are $4, and are available at the door on the day of the event, she said. The fair is noon-3 p.m., and a soup-and-sandwich lunch will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. The fair again will be hosted at Bascom’s Meadowbrook Ballroom, she said, which is a “breathtaking” setting. Keith Hodkinson will serve as master of ceremonies.

Harrison said Altrusa’s Bridal Fair and So Much More is a unique event because all the profits from the fair “go back to the community.” The Tiffin Altrusa club, she said, is a non-profit organization that seeks to serve the community in many charitable ways. FACT and The Salvation Army are just two examples of charities helped by Altrusa, she said, and the organization also provides scholarships, hosts an annual librarian lunch and provides numerous other outreaches in the area.
