Deputies probe area shooting death

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Fostoria woman who was found by her husband early Friday morning with a gunshot wound to her chest.

Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Kevin Reinbolt said the husband of Brenda Lonsway, 63, called 911 just before 4 a.m. after he found his wife at their residence, 4581 N. US 23, with a gunshot wound to her chest.

Reinbolt said the man told deputies he had awoken to find Lonsway with the gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead upon law enforcement’s arrival, Reinbolt said.

The gun was found in the vicinity of the body, he said. Nothing else suspicious was located near her, he said.

Reinbolt said Lonsway’s death is being investigated as suspicious because there are a lot questions that need to be answered. He said Lonsway’s body was transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office Friday for an autopsy.

“Suicide is definitely not being ruled out,” he said.

Reinbolt said The Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to the North US 23 residence Friday to assist law enforcement. He said law enforcement was at the residence for three to four hours Friday.

“Hopefully, through the process of autopsy and in speaking with people, we’ll be more adept to rule on it,” Reinbolt said.
