GOP board’s suggestion rejected
The Board of Elections hired Jim Ehrman as the new deputy director at its meeting Thursday.
Chairman Charles Knight said it was necessary to move quickly on the hiring.
“One of the things that we’ve been hearing from Andrea (Carroll, Board of Elections director) is that she desperately needed someone to get in here and get the job done,” he said. “I see no reason to be holding back unless the Secretary of State tells us to hold back.”
Seneca County Republican Central Committee recommended Donna Theis for the position at its meeting Wednesday.
The motion to hire Ehrman was approved 3-1. Board member Janet Leahy case the dissenting vote. Ehrman is to start Sept. 16 pending approval from Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.
The board also discussed the possibility of a new location.
Commissioner Holly Stacy has been in contact with the board about new locations and has sketches for the board to consider.
Jim Fruth suggested inviting Stacy to a work session.
If the board was to move, it wouldn’t happen until the first of the year and would be completed before candidate petitions are filed in February, Knight said.
The board moved into executive session to discuss personnel policy and employee evaluations.
